LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK I OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
THE GREAT FALL
CHAPTER IX
THE LEGEND BEGINS

The group began making preparations to head towards the Home of the Gorons, Death Mountain. The Sheikah gave them a large amount of supplies for the quest they had to take. Link noticed the child that was the Sheikah they encountered. She looked to be in a rough state. Impa turned to him and said, “That poor child. She lost her family in the war, and has been plagued by nightmares since. She tends not to sleep for days on end. I wish there was something we could do for her.”

Saria, who had overheard the conversation, said, “It's too bad we're so far from the forest. I could make her something that could help.” Sheik turned to his comrade's and yelled, “Would you two mind helping here?” We have a long journey ahead of us, and already I'm starting it with a bad back!” Saria quickly ran over to help her friend with the large amount of items he was carrying.

Shadow walked over to Link and said, “You're worried about the child, aren't you?” The elf nodded. Smiling, the dark elf replied, “Well then, do something about it. If you can't cheer up a little kid, how do you plan to save two worlds? Have to start somewhere, and it might as well be here.” Link let out a little chuckle and said, “Never took you for a motivational speaker.”
“To be honest, it's not my strongest trait,” Came the reply.

“Now if you need me, I'm going to gather as much Chu-Jelly potions as possible. We don't want to do this mission without an ample supply.” Shadow then headed to a nearby shop. Remembering the horrid taste of the remedy, he muttered, “Easy for you to say. You didn't drink that stuff.” He could feel his stomach start to churn at the mere memory of the concoction. Holding his gut, he groaned, “I beg the, Goddesses. Please let them be out of stock...”

Saria, who was standing behind him, said, “Geez, Link. I didn't know you could be such a wuss. How bad can a potion be?” Looking at her, he asked, “Remember Sheiks Foragers surprise, the Rat Tail Soup?” A look of disgust crossed the female's face. “Ugh. How can I forget?” Link sighed and said, “Those potions make that slop taste good.”

Sheik called out, “Don't diss the soup, guys! You'll be glad that I can make things like that when these supplies run out!” Saria and Link looked at each other for a moment, then said, “We're going to need more supplies.” With that, the female darted off to find anything that could prolong the necessity of consuming the swill that Sheik called a meal.

Impa turned to the warrior and asked, “What's wrong with Rat Tail Soup?” Looking at the Muscular female, he said, “Uh... Nothing?” Laughing, the Sheikah said, “Look, Fairy boy. When your in the wild and have no supplies, you have to take what you can get. You do what you need to survive. Simple as that.” In a voice of surrender, Link muttered, “Yeah, I guess you're right.” Standing next to the elf, Impa said quietly, “But between you and me, I can't stand that stuff either.”

The two of them laughed for a moment before the female said, “Don't underestimate Sheik's ability to forage off the land. It will be a very valuable asset in the future. He is more like the Sheikah than he knows, and I'm certain that you have noticed that as well.” Link nodded. “I've heard legends about the Sheikah and the things they can do. Sheik as well, and he's spent his entire life trying to become as powerful as the legends say. But, he seems a lot better at improvising that actually fighting”

Impa smiled. “The truth is that a Sheikah never knows what is going to happen next. Your friend learned that lesson while training himself, and learned our most valuable asset. In battle, you can't expect the enemy to follow through the same way all the time, so you have to make your attacks spur of the moment. Improvising is the most valuable asset of a Sheikah, and that is where our true strength lies.”

Link sighed. “Well, that's kind of ironic now that I think about it. But how do we use that to our advantage?” The warrior smiled. “You'll have to find that out on your own. But once you do, you will become the legend you were meant to be.” With that, she walked off. Standing there blankly for a moment, he muttered, “Nice carrot you left dangling there.” He then continued to put supplies on Epona, saying, “I'm sorry, girl, but we have a long journey ahead of us. We're going to need everything we can get from this point.

As he continued stocking up, the child from earlier walked over to Link and said, “Mr. Forest Fairy?” Link turned to her and smiled. “Hey. Something wrong?” The child shook her head and said, “I heard you're going to go into battle.” Saria walked over to the two and replied, “That's right. We have to fight so that we can stop Hyrule from being destroyed.”

Looking around, the child handed Link a bundle and said, “If you're going to Death Mountain, you'll need this.” Curious, the elf opened the parcel and saw a bow and a quiver of fifty arrows. He looked at the child and she said, “They were my father's, before the Imprisoning war. I hope that by giving them to you for your battle, he will watch over you and your friends and keep you safe.” Link smiled and said, “I don't know what to say.”

After a moment, he reached around his neck and pulled out a small pouch that had been stitched shut. Handing it to her, he said, “This is a spirit pouch. Inside is a Deku seed from the Great Deku Tree himself. Among the Kokiri, it is said to keep away the creatures of darkness that attack your dreams. It's not much, but it's the least I can offer for your gift.” The child held the pouch in her hands for a moment before saying, “Thank you Mr. Fairy.” Link smiled and turned to the others. “Are we ready to head out?”

Sheik called back, “About as ready as we're going to get. Is Shadow back yet?” The dark elf smiled and said, “Right here. I have enough Chu Jelly Potions for an army.” Link groaned and replied, “Then find an army and give it to them. I never want to taste that stuff again!” Everyone broke out into laughter as shadow replied, “Army of four right here!” The laughter grew louder and the warriors climbed onto their mounts.

Saria smiled and said, “Okay, people. Next stop, Death Mountain.” Sheik turned to her and said, “Nice name. I feel welcome already.”
“Let's head out,” Link shouted. The four then headed at a canter to the ash spewing mountain range over the horizon. The child turned to Impa and said, “They must be fearless warriors, being able to laugh before going to battle.” Impa smiled as she watched the four head off.

“No, they are not without fear. They know full well that this quest could easily cost them all their lives. They laugh so that we can't see the fear they are truly wearing. Four people, brought into battle by chance, and riding together by destiny. They hold the fate of not only this world, but the Dark world as well, on their backs. They know that if they fail, everything that is shall be gone. This is where their adventure starts, and the legend begins.”
