LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK I OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
THE GREAT FALL
CHAPTER III
DARKNESS FALLS

The temple rocked violently and Navi yelled, “This place won't take more hits like that!” The purple fairy replied, “Quit being paranoid.” Nave retorted, “Shut Up, Flint! If I wanted your traitorous opinion, I'd beat it out of you!” The two fairies started squabbling violently. Sheik sighed, sneaked up behind them and snagged them into separate bottles. The three other members and two remaining fairies all said in exasperated unison, “Thank you!” The warrior smiled. “No thanks necessary. I do it all the time.” The appraising looks suddenly became hostile. “What?” he asked dumbly. Dark Link sighed and said, “Well, I'd better start with my little tale.”

Saria muttered, “It had better be good, because I'm in no mood for tricks.” the temple of time shook again. Link muttered, Are you sure this place will hold?” Dark link nodded. “Yes. It's been doing that forever, so get used to it.” Link looked at him and asked, “How could it last that long with this violent shaking?” Sheik replied, “I think this is the Temple of Time. If that's true, then time has no meaning here.” Dark Link nodded. Yeah. This is the place. I've been stuck in here most my life with only Flint to look out for me. Here's the story from what She told me.”

Sheik lit a fire to fend off the darkness and said, “Better make it good. I'm not in the mood for any tricks, creature.” Link shook his head. “I think we should hear him out.” Dark Link smiled. “Finally, a voice of reason.”
“Then decide how best to deal with this guy.” he finished. The dark elf sighed. “Well, I guess that's justified too.” he muttered in surrender. Anyway, the facts are this...”

“When I was only seven years old, I was training to be in Gannondorf's army. I wanted to be the most powerful warrior in all of Dark World. Naturally, being an incarnation of the great Link's dark side, that would have been easy. I was standing on the proving grounds, ready to show my might to my soon to be master, when IT happened. The sky erupted into flames. Burning stars fell to the ground, destroying everything beneath it. I watched my world destroyed.”

“Then Flint found me. She rushed me to this temple and sealed me in it. I've been here seven years since, and she told me constantly that I can not save my world on my own. I would need to save this world as well, and I would have allies that would have originally been my enemies. I didn't revel in the thought of teaming up with those who would oppose mt prince, but I didn't have a choice. My kingdom had fallen and no one remained but monsters that were foreign, even to the world that was dominated by all manner of creatures.”

The general of lord Gannondorf's army rushed me to this temple and handed Flint over to me for protection. As well, he gave me the items you now hold in your hands. I was told that I needed the help of the Hero Of Time, and I'd know him the minute I saw him.” The party looked at the twin elves and Sheik muttered, “I'd hardly call him a hero. He can barely use a sword properly.” Dark Link nodded, saying, “His abilities will return to him as he remembers more about his past selves.”

“As much as I hate to admit it, I have no choice but to trust my eternal enemy for any hope to save my kingdom... and as you now know, the same goes for you. Trust me, I do not savor the taste this alliance leaves on my tongue, but I am left with no other alternatives.” The four of them sat quietly for several minutes, when Link said, “Hyrule Terminus.” Everyone turned to him confused.

He looked up and said, “The Light and the Dark Worlds coexist with each other. If one falls, the other follows. The term the Goddesses would use for this is the Hyrule Terminus effect. The Hyrule in the dark world was destroyed. That means that this one is meeting the same fate.” Navi started banging the side of the bottle she was trapped in desperately trying to escape. Pulling the cork out, the fairy gasped yelled, “Air holes, Sheik! Air holes!!!” Looking at her for a moment, he snapped to his senses, yelling, “Shit!!!” Pulling the top off the other bottle, he inverted it and the sprite fell lucidly to the ground.

After a moment of everyone looking, Saria muttered, “I think you killed her...” Coughing, Flint replied, “No... But... I'll kill... Him...” Dilt, in his usual wisdom, or lack of, replied, “How? You can't fight.” Weakly, Flint replied, “No... But you'd be... surprised... what you can... choke on...” The group let out a relieved laugh at the comment when Dark Link said, “Good thing she's safe. Once this chaos is over, it'll be impossible to survive without the help of a fairy.”

The group looked at him confused. “It's like this,” He explained. “The only way to survive once this Hyrule Terminus takes over is with the aid of a fairy. Only a few people in either world can possess a fairy, and it's usually through bloodline. Flint has been in my family for over ten generations. I assume it's something similar with the rest of you?” The group nodded except Link. “Actually, I found Navi hurt in the fields just outside Kokiri and nursed her back to health. She's been with me since.”

Sheik looked at Link and asked, “Since you seem to know what's happening, how does this work?” Link shook his head. “I don't remember all the details. They're kind of garbled. But it happens when the Light and Dark Worlds merge. It causes them to collapse into each other. The only way to fix the damage is to go into each world separately.”
“Is that even possible?” asked the warrior. Link nodded. “In theory, yes. It was said that the Legendary Hero managed to travel between worlds at one point when they were separated. Since the two worlds are starting to overlap, in theory it should be possible to repeat that process.”

Dark Link nodded in agreement. “It's already been proven. We're all here. That's proof that the worlds have overlapped. There's no doubt in my mind that this is a test that your Goddesses have set up to see if the Light and Dark can join forces and overcome this.” Link looked at him confused. “You believe in the goddesses?” Lowering his head in despair, he muttered, “It's the darkest secret that I have, but yes. If they could keep the mighty Gannondorf at bay for all these incarnations, then I believe there could be some truth to that legend. If the army found out, I'd be executed. Saria muttered,”Well, I know what I'd so,” she said, pointing the spear at him.

Like yelled, “Saria! Knock it off! We have no idea what's happened to Hyrule, and we might need all the help that we can get!” Everyone looked at him in shock. “Yeah, I trust this guy about as far as I can throw a Goron, but we really don't have any alternatives in the matter. We need him and he needs us. So fight and complain between yourselves all you want, in the end, we're stuck together. Now, the shaking seems to have stopped, so I'm going outside to take a look around.” With that, the green garbed elf headed to the exit of the temple with Navi close behind.

Dark Link looked at them and said, “He has a Point. We're stuck like this, so it's pointless to keep going on about it. So, from now on, we're allies. For lack of a better name, you can call me Shadow. I'm going to investigate the damage.” With that, he proceeded after Link. Sheik and Saria looked at each other for a moment when the female muttered, “They're so alike, it's kind of creepy.” Sheik nodded. “That was the only reason I was against it. Ugh... Twins...” without another word, the duo chased after the look alikes.
