LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK I OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
THE GREAT FALL
CHAPTER VII
THE WORRIES OF THE DEKU

Link, Saria and Sheik arrived at the Great Deku Tree looking a little dazed and disoriented, but none the worse for wear. Link looked at the dead creature and said, “What happened here?” Shadow shrugged. “Nothing much. Just the usual. A problem came up... then blew up...” Saria looked at the plants and yelled, “My flowers! What happened to them?!?” Shadow slowly tried to creep away before she finished putting two and two together. Link muttered, “What kind of idiot plants Bombflowers right next to the Great Deku Tree?” The female growled and replied, “One that appreciates their beauty. Why, you looking for a fight?” Link started backing away upon realizing how sensitive she was towards the volatile blossoms.

The ground shook as the Great Deku Tree chuckled. “Saria. It is because of your plants that the Kokiri are once again safe. And it was the quick thinking Dark World warrior who made it so.” Storming towards Shadow, she rolled up her sleeves, saying, “So you're the wise guy, eh?” Link and Sheik grabbed her to keep her from reaching her intended victim with little effect when the Deku Tree said, “Calm yourself, child. Bu sacrificing your plants, he saved all of the creatures of this forest. You should be proud of the feat, not angered.”

The female calmed down slightly and muttered through tears, “But that particular Bombflower only blossoms once every fourteen years. I wanted to see them so much...” Link looked at the mighty tree and said, “Great Deku Tree, we are in need of your guidance. Hyrule Terminus has fallen on these lands and everything is falling victim. We need to know. What should we do?” The tree sat there silently for a moment, then said, “You will need to call upon the blessings of the goddess in the proper order to fight the destruction that is happening to these lands. One goddess at a time, light than dark than back again until they all grant you their power.”

Sheik smiled. “Well, that should be easy. We already know where they are, so let's go see them.” Saria hit him in the head, saying, “Not so fast, bonehead. We still don't know what the is sequence to call upon their blessing.” Link nodded and added, “On top of that, it shouldn't be that easy. We're overlooking something.” The ground trembled as the Great Deku Tree said, “You are right. That is not all there is to it. You will need to find the sequence that is required as well as find the scattered pieces of both Tri-Force.” The four elves yelled, “There's more than one?!?” The three Kokiri and the dark elf looked at one another confused.

The Great Deku Tree once again let out a ground trembling chuckle and said, “For every light that exists, there also exists a darkness. There is the Tri-Force that has been fought over for eternity, as well as a counter Tri-Force that has gained immense power from this conflict. It is a dangerous relic that has long been shattered to prevent getting any more powerful than it already is. The absence of this darker relic has caused the essence of both the worlds to remain neutral to this time.”

Shadow looked at the all knowing tree and said, “And since this lost Tri-Force is gone, the one known to legend caused the balance to shift, right?”
“That is correct, young Link,” the Deku Tree rumbled. “The absence of this ancient, and time lost relic caused the celestial barrier between both worlds to crumble like a straw house, and forced the two worlds to merge and ultimately destroy each other. Princess Zelda and Prince Gannondorf already realize the severity of the situation and are currently looking for both the Tri-Force and it's Chaos counterpart. You four will be required to gain the blessings of the goddesses in both worlds.”

Link smiled. “Well, that sounds easy enough. Now what's the sequence, Great Deku Tree? Once we know that, we can stop this destruction.” The ground trembled as the Great Deku Tree said, “The order of the sequence is...” The group stood there listening eagerly. “The sequence is...” The group now leaned closer to know the path they now needed to take. “The sequence is... Something I do not know.” The group fell to the ground in frustration. Saria got to her feet and yelled, “How can you not know the order of the blessing?!? You're the Great Deku Tree! You know EVERYTHING!!!” Link sighed and mused, “I guess that was before the Great Deku Tree's time. That being the case, it sort of makes sense he wouldn't really know.”

“Stow it Buddy!” Saria snapped, bombarding him with her slingshot. “This is between me and the and the giant talking shrub!!!” Sheik sighed looking up at the moon. “Oh. It's THAT time.” Link groaned. “Great. Remind me to keep my distance for a couple of days.” Shadow stood there blankly, with absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Sighing, the dark elf muttered, “I'll never understand women...” The three warriors watched as the female verbally tear into the almost all-knowing tree before Link said, “We need to get her to calm down.” Shadow smiled as he casually raised the boomerang in a throwing stance.

Link looked at it and asked, “What's that thing?” With a mighty throw, he tossed the weapon at the enraged female. However, instead of it hitting her as planned, she caught the weapon and glared murderously at the dark elf. “Uh...” he blubbered. “It's a peace offering?” Looking at the weapon, she asked, “What is it?”
“A boomerang,” Sheik muttered. “You throw it and it comes back.” Her expression changed into one of joy. “really? For me? Why?” Shadow, now realizing he had to think on his feet with this group, said, “An apology for blowing up your plants?” Her eyes lit up and she said, “This looks much more useful that my slingshot.” The laugh that followed filled the elves with chills.

The Great Deku Tree said, “In order to find the answers you seek, you will need to seek out the Shadow of the Hylians, The Sheikah. Only they can guide you in the path that you need to follow. Find the Sheikah, and you will find your next course of action.” Shadow smiled. Well, we happen to be in a fair bit of luck. I happen to know where there are lots of Sheikah.” Saria turned to him confused. “Really? I thought they were all dead after the Imprisoning wars.” Shadow smiled. “Not the case. There's an area in the badlands that no person from Dark world would ever go. I can bring you there, but I'm afraid I'll need to sit on the sidelines. If they see me, they'll be really pissed.”

The Great Deku Tree said, “Then farewell, and good luck on your journey. May the Goddesses watch over you and grant you success in your mission.” As the four left, the mighty tree said silently so as not to disturb the ground, “For I am afraid that it will only take the slightest error for this legend to come to a tragic end. Farewell, my children, and good luck, Dark warrior. This is your legend as well.”
