LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK I OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
THE GREAT FALL
CHAPTER VIII
THE SHEIKAH

The group rode to the Hylian Badlands on the southern outskirts of the kingdom, and Link muttered, “I hope this little detour was worth the hassle. We just lost two days, and the miasma is spreading steadily. If we don't find the Sheikah here, this will be the end of the road.” Shadow looked to the north and saw the cloud had indeed covered more ground. He turned to them and said, “You'll have to be...” his voice trailed off as he looked around. “Something's wrong.” The party looked at him confused. “It's not here.”

“What's not here?” asked Link. Shaking his head, the dark elf replied, “The sense of danger. The uncontrollable fear the people of the Dark World get when they trespass into this area. It's as if there are no Sheikah in this area. That can't be right.” Saria looked around and said, “If they're not were, why does it feel as if we're being watched?” The group drew their weapons so as to be ready for the first sign of trouble. Sheik said quietly, “I sense a shadow... and it's close...” The Dilt replied, “Of course you do, Sheik. He's standing next to you.” Shadow sighed. “Hate to say this, Sheik... but when you got your fairy, you really got the short end of the stick.”

“Actually, he kept him in a bottle a little too long without air holes. Poor Dilt's been like that ever since.” Shadow swatted Sheik hard saying, “And they call me a monster!” Link looked around and said, “Any idea how to scout the area without being seen?” Shadow smiled. “Just leave that to me.” His eyes turned a glowing red and his body turned black as his garments, radiating a strange aura that matched before blending into the ground and disappearing into the shadows. The group looked at this and Link muttered, “Did anyone else know he could do that?”

The sound of a child's panicked voice came from behind a set of rocks, followed by an explosion. The group ran over to the disturbance and say Shadow lying on the ground. “Ouch... Damned magic...” Saria yelled, “What did you do that made it attack?” The dark elf sighed and answered, “Hello...” Link looked around and called, “It's okay! You can come out! We aren't here to hurt you!” The child's voice came back shouting, “You're traveling with a Dark World soldier! You're my enemy!” Saria yelled back, “If we wanted to hurt you, we would have done that by now!”

The child didn't answer. Sheik said, “She's on the move. South, towards a village. There are people there, probably Sheikah. If she gets there before we can stop her, we're all dead.” The group prepared to give chase when Shadow yelled, “Wait!” Everyone looked at him confused. “It's a stupid one, but I think I have an idea.”

Several minutes later, A small band of people in form-fitting, lightly armored outfits came over the southern rise. The child said, “There they are. Three forest fairies traveling with a Dark World Soldier. They've come to attack us!” The leader of the group looked at the four warriors and the weapons that were twenty paces away. Looking at the group the leader remarked, “If they meant to attack, they wouldn't have stayed where you found them with their weapons discarded.” the leader then jumped high in the air and landed at the group, looking them over carefully for several long moments.

Finally, she said, “Grab your weapons and follow me.” The four elves looked at her blankly. “Just pick them up? No confiscating? No brutal beatings? No painful magic attacks where the potions wont heal?” The Sheikah said in an amused tone, “Well, if that is how you'd prefer this to go about...” Sensing the seriousness in her tone the group scrambled for their weapons... save for the dark elf. Saria looked at him and said, “You actually WANT her to hurt you?” Shadow smiled. “Why not? It sounds like fun.”

The three companions gave him an awkward look as Saria readied her slingshot. After a moment, she muttered, “Nah... He just took the fun out of it...” The Sheikah smiled. “I like this one. You four can call me Impa. I'm the leader of the Sheikah. Tell me, why are you so fond of pain?” Shadow smiled. “It's a good learning tool. The more you get hurt doing something wrong, the more likely you'll get in right the next time.” Laughing, The Sheikah said, “Spoken like a soldier. Come.” The group followed the Sheikah warriors to a village. Looking around, Sheik said, “Something familiar about this place...”

The group came to a stop at a pillar and the leader turned to them. “Do any of you know what this Obelisk before us says?” After several moments of looking at the pillar, Sheik said, “It's the legend of the golden goddesses and the blessings that they gave to the people. Granting them their gifts of  Power, Wisdom, and Courage to light the darkness that is now the golden land of Hyrule. We know about this legend. It's what the Goddess festival in the city was based on.” Link snapped his fingers. “That's it! That's the sequence!” Saria groaned. “Link... We don't have the first idea what the goddess sequence is to begin with!”

Shadow smiled. “Actually, Sheik just said it. The Obelisk says that the order the blessings were given were Power, Wisdom and Courage . That means the sequence we need to get the blessings from are the same.” The third male nodded and said triumphantly, “That means that our problems are solved...” then in a somber tone, added, “Any idea what Tri-Force fits which Goddess?” Now realizing the group celebrated too soon, the cheer of triumph faded into a renewed gloom of despair. After a while, Link asked, “Well, we knew the sequence the whole time, but now we don't know where to go from there. What should we do?”

Link turned to Navi and asked, “Do you know what the answer is?” Navi replied, “Sorry, I can't tell you. You'll have to find it out on your own.” Shadow called over to Link, yelling, “What do you make of this?” The group headed over and looked at it. After a moment or so, Sheik said, “It's a map. The red area is where we're standing. The arrow leading away from here goes to the blue area where the sea meets the shore. Finally the path points towards Kokiri Forest, which is the green area. I thought you'd of all people would know that.”

Saria yelled, “I got it!!!” Everyone turned to her and she said, “Where were standing is red. That's the color of the Din, the goddess of Power. The map then says to go towards the shore which is blue, the color of the Goddess Nayru, and Finally to the green area that is the Goddess Farore.” Shadow smiled. “Wow. That's pretty brilliant. So all we have to do is activate them one at a time in both worlds and this nightmare ends.” Link shook his head. “If it were that easy, it would have been done by now. This is simply where the free ride comes to a halt. Let's go find that statue.”
