LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK III OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
WORLD OF DARKNESS
CHAPTER VII
THE UN-DRAMATIC RESCUE

Tingle ran at the creature, swinging wildly with his eyes closed. The Demon said, “Perhaps I might have been wrong about this pathetic creature being a threat to my plans. He just swings wildly with that sword he's holding.” As Tingle neared the queen, He tripped over a bombflower and landed face first on the ground, unaware that he triggered the volatile plant. Standing up, he readied to attack when the blossom exploded. He was immediately sent flying into the creature with tremandous force, knocking the possessed fairy to the ground.

The queen gave him a powerful backhand that sent him and the sword flying in two different directions. The sword flew past the demon and landed beside it while Tingle crashed into a branch and proceeded forward. Noticing how taut the branch had bent, he knew this wasn't going to end well. With a powerful snapping motion, Tingle was sent flying at the queen a second time and flew into her face with bone jarring force, causing the mask to crack slightly.

“He damaged the mask?!?” yelled the demon. Tingle got to his feet and started running. He darted past the Demon and tripped on yet another bombflower, causing it to light it's fuse. Noticing the enraged demon, he stumbled backwards and started hoping some miracle would save him. No miricale this time... just the plant he activated. With a mighty blast, both Tingle and the demon crashed into the fairy queen and the sword flew into a tree branch high overhead.

Getting up with a groan, the demon yelled, “I am not going to lose to an IDIOT!!!” Tingle stumbled back as the queen prepared to cut him down. As she swung her blades in a wide arc, the creature fell over and the attack hit the demon instead. Roaring in rage, he yelled, “The gnome, you fool! Slay the GNOME!!!” She bowed and headed towards tingle. Thinking about how his bad luck was actually paying off, Tingle let out a smile as he looked at the queen, the demon, a branch behind him and finally the sword directly over it's head.

With a chuckle and an impish wave, he said, “Ta-taa.” With that, he casually kicked a bombflower blossom off it's stem, casually turned around, slapping his backside laughing as he said, “Never underestimate Tingle the Mighty!” The blossom exploded sending the two flying in separate directions. The demon crashed into the fairy queen, sending her flying and shattering the mask, Tingle crashed into the branch behind him and flew into the branch that was now directly over the demon's head.

The creature hit the branch and dislodged the blade and it fell blade first through the Demon's head. With a roar of pain, the demon exploded into a cloud of putrid smoke. The map salesman fell to the ground and braced for the painful landing when Sheik grabbed him and landed lightly on his feet. Laughing, the elf said, “You might not make the history books as the greatest hero in history, but this is  definitely going to be quite a story to tell to your grandchildren.”

The fairy queen Venus glided towards the five and said, “I owe you my life for what you have done for me this day. If there is anything you need, ask and you shall have it.” Shadow looked at the ruined weapons, he said, “We need...” Venus cut him off, saying, “Do not worry, I can repair your weapons and forge them to be far stronger that before. They will not break so easily a second time. As well, I know you seek the golden compass. Though the item is merely a myth, I have a compass that can guide you through this darkness. You can not use it off the open fields, but it will help you find your way through the darkest of times.”

Tingle stood there a fair timid. The queen of the fairies said, “You have longed to become more than you were, and came by chance upon these warriors. In doing so, you found the secret of your family's trade, as well found the adventure that you have so long sought for. It is a great honor to have been rescued by one so... Unique as yourself. Using bad luck and good timing, you defeated the demon that enslaved me and as well became that which you have longed to be. A hero.”

Tingle stood there, blushing, saying, “Aww, it was nothing. I just did what I do best, yes?” Laughing, Link said, “And you've  been doing that since we first got lost in this place. They say skill is ninety-eight percent luck. You seem to be able to use that at it's best.” Everyone burst into laughter. Venus smiled and said, “Still, I shall bestow you, Mr. Tingle, with a very special sword that was used by the Great Fairies themselves.” Extending her hand, a magnificent blade appeared. Handing it to Tingle, she said, “This is your sign of valor for your actions here this day.”

Link said, “Great queen, we need to make our way to Kokiri Forest. If we don't get there, we will fail our quest to save this world as well as our own.” The Queen fell silent. Shadow nodded and said, “I see. Then we will at least need to get close as possible to the Skull Mountain.” Nodding, the queen said, “I can get you to the Skeleton Marsh, but no closer. It would be too dangerous.” Looking at the map, Saria said, “But that ten days away from koki...” Sheik covered her mouth and shook his head. Knowing what this meant, she dropped the subject like a molten stone.

Tingle smiled and said, “Well, you four rest up for your adventure. I have maps to make.” With that, the creature flew off on his balloon, saying, We will meet again, Yes?” The group yelled, “Do we have a choice?” the five of them broke into laughter. After Tingle was gone, Shadow said, “Who'd have thought he'd save us?” Sheik shrugged. “I had an Inkling.” Sighing, Link said, “Let's get some rest while we can before our equipment gets repaired. It's only going to get harder form here on out.”

Hours passed and Link couldn't sleep. Shadow looked at him and said, “You know, don't you?” Link nodded. "We all had our suspicions. I'm sorry.” Shadow shook his head. “Don't worry about it,” He said in surrender. “I was the last few anyway. The eve of Hyrule Terminus, most of my people fell ill and died in their sleep. Everyone except me that is. Truth is, I'm not even a pure blooded Dark World creature.” Link looked at him confused. “What do you mean?” Laughing, he said, “How many people in this world have the eyes of one of your people? Also, you didn't notice my skin is lighter than it should be? Geez, you twit! I'm half this world, and half one of your race, Forest Kokiri!”

Link shook his head in shock. “I didn't think that was possible?” Venus stood next to him and said, “You should have noticed, Link. After all. He's...”
