LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK IV OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
DESERT OF DEKU
CHAPTER V
OKITO

The group once again entered the blowing wind and sand that was the Desert of Deku in search of the lost Sprit. As the four wandered the dead land, Dilt yelled, “Uh, dudes? Feeling some seriously bad mojo around here.” Shadow sighed and muttered, “Can't that thing speak proper Hylian? I can't understand half of what he's saying.” Sheik smiled. “Let's see if I can figure it out.” Turning to the fairy, he said, “Hey, what's with the serious downer 'tude, dude? Feels like the old thinking's gone Loco, y'know? How about a little upper chatter, man.”

Dilt replied, “Naw, man. Serious bad mojo giving me the willies. Need to keep the head above the high tides, y'know? Major problemo up ahead, dude.” Turning to the others, the elf said, “Dilt says that we're heading into something  that could be over our heads.” The others looked at him stunned that he was able to decipher the unknown language. Shadow pointed at Sheik and said, “You, don't walk close to me... You're creeping me out...” Link smiled and replied, “You get used to it.”

At that moment, a loud screeching sound came from ahead, and Saria yelled, “Looks like our Linguistically lacking friend was right! What was that?” Shadow readied his sword and said, “I don't know what monster that came from, but the cries for help I have a pretty good clue!” The group ran ahead until they reached a strange creature that looked like she was half bird and half human. A large glowing creature loomed over her and looked like it was ready to use her as a light snack.

Link drew his bow and fired an arrow at the monster. The shot only grazed the monster. Despite the only slight injury, the fiend ran off. The four adventurers ran to the creature's side. Shadow, looking at her, said, “Are you okay? And... what are you?” The birdlike creature stood there frightened. Link walked over and said, “Shadow, can I get one of those potions? She's been hurt.” Handing him a Chu Jelly Potion, Shadow, said, “Any clue what she is, or what that thing was?”

Link nodded. “Her, I know. She's a child Rito. Judging by the clothes, she's one of the upper crust members of the race. But, what is she doing In dark world?”
“Getting attacked...” Sheik muttered. He let out a loud yelp as a Deku seed hit him in the nose. Saria looked at the female Rito for a moment, then asked, “Are you okay? My name's Saria. What's yours?” The bird-like female said nervously, “My name is Okito, Daughter of the leader of the Rito race. Can you tell me how to get home?”

The group stood there awkwardly. “We're not sure...” Link finally answered. “This isn't Hyrule.” Okito looked terrified at the news. “If this isn't Hyrule, then where am I?” Shadow, in a unusually calm voice, said, “You're in Dark World. Do you know how you got here?” Shaking her head, tears in her eyes, she said, “No. I don't. I'm scared and I want to go home! I want my father!” Sheik said in a calm voice, “We can help you.” The group turned to him and Link asked, “How do we do that?” Saria snapped her fingers and said, “A port tile. If we can find one of those, she can find her way home from there.”

Shadow looked around, making sure the creature had not returned, saying, “Once we get out of the desert, that is.” Link thought for a moment, then said, “If we get to the exit of this place, we can make that our next course of action. But I still wonder what that creature was? I've never seen anything like it before.” Shadow shrugged. “Get used to it. I don't think that's going to be the last demonic glowing monster ball that...” His eyes widened in shock.

Saria looked at him and said, “What's wrong?” Weakly, the dark elf said, “That wasn't a monster from this land.” Turning to the female, he continued, “That was Sprit. I'm certain of it. She must be possessed by one of those damned masks.” The group stood there shocked. “The glow it let out, the overall shape of the creature, That's what it is. Sprit is being controlled, just like Venus was.” Saria tightened her grip on her spear and said through gritted teeth, “That demon is going to DIE for what he did to Sprit...”

Okito looked confused. Sheik sat down and briefly explained what was going on. Looking at the warriors, she said, “I see. Is there anything I can do to help? Just ask and I will assist any way I can.” The group thought for a moment, then Sheik said, “Did you get a good look at the Desert before you were attacked? We need to find the exit so that we can rescue Saria's fairy and continue our quest.” thinking, the Rito said, “Yes, I know where to go... Vaguely. We have to walk straight for a mile and make a right from there. The exit in in the center of the desert, in an oasis. There's a fairy pond that allows you to travel from one location to another just outside the badlands.”

Shadow smiled. “The Kokiri Badlands? If we can get there, We can achieve the next part of our goal. We'll be able to get the second blessing we need to save the two worlds!” Okito looked at him and said, “You're collecting the blessings of the deities of both worlds? Why?” Another brief explanation later, she nodded. “My father will not take kindly to strangers entering the Dragon Roost Mountain... But I can see what I can do to convince him as my thanks for your help.”

Link smiled and said, “That would be great. At this point, their best is all we can ask of anyone in terms of help.” The Rito smiled and said, “Come, I'll bring you to the Turn we need to take. After that, I'll take to the skies in order to see where to go from there.” The group nodded and headed along their path to the center of the desert. After an hour of walking, they made a right turn and came to a halt. Okito took to the skied and vanished from view as she exited the blowing sands.

Shortly, she returned and said, “There is an oasis just an hour up ahead. We can stop there to rest and get some water.” noticing the poor Rito was worn out, He pulled out a bottle of water, saying, “It's out last one at the moment, but you need it more that any of us do. That flying looks like hard work.” Okito nodded. “My wings are still new, so I'm not used to using them. I only passed the ritual to get them a couple of weeks ago.” Link nodded. “Well, you need this pretty badly, so drink it all, okay?” Nodding, the Rito drank the jar of water and they continued to the oasis.

When they were out of the blowing sands and again on lush ground, they went to the spring and quenched their thirst. Finally, they investigated the area for any sigh on potential trouble. Convinced that there was none, they lay down to get some much need rest.
