LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK IV OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
DESERT OF DEKU
CHAPTER VI
A “FAIRY” BIG PROBLEM...

The group rested well and woke the next morning refreshed. Looking around, Link asked, “So this is the center of the Desert. Where's the Lake that gets us out of here?” A menacing voice came from all directions, saying, “You will not live long enough to find out.” The four warriors readied their weapons and Okito pulled out a grappling hook. Looking around, Link yelled, “Show yourself, Demon!” With a laugh, the creature said, “Gladly. I want you to see the one that will be your executioner.” Appearing before them, this demon looked different from the others. He was more pale, as though made from the sands themselves.

Link fired an arrow at the creature to end the fight there. Instead the projectile passed through it, as though it wasn't there. This demon was made of sand. Smiling, he said, “Now, now, foolish elf. That wasn't very nice.” A large glowing green monster landed beside him and he continued, “Seems like you found your little fairy friend. I'll let you all get... reacquainted.” The possessed monstrous fairy let out a loud roar and took to the air. Link readied his bow, but hesitated. “I can't get a clear shot at the mask!” he yelled. Saria yelled, “We can't hurt her! What are we going to do?”

The monster swooped down and fired a burst of energy at the four warriors. Jumping out of the way, they managed to avoid the brunt of the attack. The elves and the Rito tried to figure out what to do. Then Tingle's not so welcome voice, yelled, “Geronimo!” he landed on top of the Fairy and yelled, “Oh-NO!!!” the fairy flew in wild patterns trying to shake off the unwanted guest. Okito looked at the creature, and yelled, “I got it!”

She spun her grappling hook and launched it at the possessed fairy. Releasing it, the hook clasped onto the creature's back where Tingle was clinging desperately. In a matter of seconds, it came lose since there was no place to latch onto. Tingle seemed to get an idea and yelled, “Miss Rito! Throw it again!” Nodding, Okito launched the item a second time and tingle grabbed onto it tightly. Quickly, he clasped it onto a section of the head that jutted out where the mask was connected to the face.

Tingle then yelled, “Hurry, Mr. Fairy! It wont stay on long!” Sheik turned to Saria and yelled, “Saria! Time to fly!” The female nodded and ran at the warrior. Sheik grabbed her foot and tossed her high into the air. Pointing the tip of her weapon downward, she slammed the slammed the spear into the mask, yelling, “Sorry, Sprit, but you're grounded!” Possessed fairy crashed into the ground and Sheik ran at it, slamming his iron boot into the mask, causing it to crack slightly.

The monstrosity shook it's head and took to the sky with the jittery Tingle still on her back. Demon Sprit again launched a powerful attack that sent sheik flying into the spring. Tingle yelled, “Quick! The hook!” Again, Okito launched the hook and tingle grabbed it, placing it on the mask. Shadow yelled, “Here we go!” he ran at a full sprint and jumped, grabbing the rope and went swinging into the air.

Snapping his blade back, he yelled, “Let's see how you like the Helm Splitter!”  With tremendous force, he slammed his weapon into the mask, but once again only doing little damage. The creature crashed into the ground and Link preformed his cyclone attack, breaking only a small piece of the relic that enslaved their fairy friend. Shadow yelled, “What the Hell is going on? Our weapons are barely affecting her!” As Demon Sprit prepared to fly, Sheik fell from the sky and slammed his foot into the mask with little effect.

Sheik said, “The mask must be protected by some type of magic. We can't destroy it with normal weapons.” As the creature once again took to the sky, Tingle yelled, “Mr Fairy! Use this!” He threw the blade that the Fairy Queen gave him for rescuing her, landing in the center of the oasis and far from the warriors. Shadow yelled, “Dammit, Tingle! Learn to throw!” Link made a mad dash at the blade and was sent flying as a powerful blast landed right behind him.

“Whoa!” he yelled, crashing into the ground. He held his arm as he looked at the enraged monster. Okito threw the hook again and Tingle placed it onto the mask. This time, the Demonic Sprit would not be foiled again. With a tremendous pull, the young Rito went flying, still holding onto the rope. Sheik grabbed onto the panicking female and pulled both her and the creature down. Grabbing onto the rope, he began pulling, bringing the monster closer to the ground.

The Shadow and Saria grabbed the rope and all four of them began to pull. Demon Nave let out a horrifying screech as she tried to get away for the warriors who now kept her motionless. Link picked up the heavy, enchanted blade and yelled, “Get her as close to the ground as possible! We'll have to rip the mask off to keep from hurting her when we destroy it!”

When the creature was grounded, Okito, Shadow, Saria, Sheik and Tingle all pulled the mask as hard as they could. The Demon smiled. 'Good.' it thought. 'Pull off the mask so that I can control one of YOU instead. That was my plan this entire time... and you are about to allow me to achieve my goal and ensure my victory.' Link stood there smiling as the Demon did nothing to stop them. Knowing that there was a hidden agenda, the elf said, “Don't get cocky, demon. You're going to fail just like the others we've faced.”

The five companions tore the mask lose and attempted to destroy it. However, It managed to elude them and the demon yelled, “Now, my puppet! Take the body of the one that threatens my plan the most! Take them so that they all fall this day!!!” Link laughed at the comment. “Not much for thinking, are you?” The demon glared at him, saying, “We'll see who...” He stopped gloating the moment he saw that the mask wasn't going after ANY of them. “What? How...?” Link tossed tingle the blade saying in a mocking tone, “All yours, Oh, Tingle the Mighty.” Tingle smiled and said “Gladly.” As Tingle wound back, Link said, “We're going to beat you every time,” The salesman smashed the mask as he finished, “because we work together, Demon.”

The Demon turned into sand, roaring at it's defeat. Once the creature was gone, Sprit took her true form and hovered sadly. “I'm sorry...” she said after a while. “I didn't want to attack you, but....” Saria smiled and said, “You weren't yourself, Sprit. We're just glad your okay now.” The six of them smiled and nodded as the fairy fluttered onto Saria's shoulder. Link smiled and said, “Yeah, Sprit. That could have been any of us, or someone else. The main thing is you're okay now.”

The fairy let out a more cheerful chuckle and said, “Thank you everyone.” Okito smiled and said, “After that, I think we should all rest. We'll worry about getting out of here when we recover.” The others nodded and fell into a relaxed, seated position. Okito thought, 'they look out for everyone, whether they know them or they're strangers. Perhaps my father is wrong about all outsiders being evil... Maybe there is hope for both worlds yet...”
