LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK V OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
HORSEMAN'S WRATH
CHAPTER IX
THE NEXT STEP

Saria took a blade of grass and played the melody that called the horses to them. Once they arrived, the Kokiri of the world they were in gave them fresh supplies, water, arrows and repaired their weapons. They also gave them a large stockpile of milk and Death Wraith remedy in case the illness hit them again. Shadow walked over to the group putting on a new tunic that was white instead of his usual choice of color. Link smiled and said, “Whoa! Shadow! Like that color on you.”

Sighing, he said, “I'm not to fond of this color. I never wanted to become a village hero simply to avoid having to put it on.” Sheik smiled. “Actually, I think it suits you better than black.” Saria nodded. “Brings out your eyes.” The dark elf blushed at the flattery and said, “Knock it off. We need to finish preparing. He turned to Mido and said, “Are you sure that you can spare all this? The soil is terrible for crops and...” Mido cut him off, saying, “Don't worry about it. We had a great yield this year. First full harvest in decades. There's more than enough for us, even if we tripled what we gave you.”

Shadow nodded. “Thanks again for everything.” The redhead laughed. “I should be saying that to you. If it weren't for you, I'd be Spider-bait right now. You have a mission to do. Man, This is your Legend. You and your friends. We have full faith that you four can pull it off. Oh, and here.” He handed Shadow a pouch saying, “That Tingle guy asked me to give it to you. Everyone also chipped in to give you some extra rupees to help you out.” Shadow smiled. “Thanks, all of you.” Mounting Brimstone, he said, “Well, We should get going guys. It's a long way to Skull Mountain.”

Link, Sheik and Saria headed off while Shadow took one last look at his home. At that moment, Saria said, “Shadow?” He turned to her confused. Smiling, she gave him a kiss on the cheek, saying, “Thanks, for everything.” She headed after the others as the dark elf sat there stunned. Liara smiled and said, “Like we keep telling you, Link.” Bargo nodded. “Yep. Some people can't be replaced, but they can extend to others. Go on. You have a future waiting for you.” Mido swatted the horse, saying, “Don't keep it waiting, old friend!”

Shadow smiled looking at the burning sky. With a smile on his face, he said to himself, “You're right. I do have a future. And I plan to fight to the death so that everyone else will too. Come Hell or high water, I WILL succeed, with my friends at my side the whole way.”
