LEGEND OF ZELDA
BOOK V OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA
HORSEMAN'S WRATH
CHAPTER V
DEKU WRAITHS

When the melody ended, the group continued onward until they reached a break in the thick fog. Looking around, Mido said, “This is not good.” Shadow turned to him and asked, “Why not?” Shaking his head, the warrior replied, “Breaks in the environment usually mean that there's a dangerous creature nearby. I hope it's not what I think it is...” A loud crashing sound came from behind therm. The four turned and say a massive creature that looked like it was made of local plant life and contorted into the most hideous shrub ever seen.

Bargo yelled, “A Deku Wraith!” The creature spat a large seed from the opening in the front of it. Shadow raised his shield and deflected the attack. Looking at the monster, he said, “I don't think it likes us being here!” Bargo charged at the creature and swung his mighty blade, cutting deep into the creature's body, but not seeming to phase it in the least.

Stepping back, he yelled, “This one seems different from the ones we normally encounter!” Liara replied, “You mean in the fact that the attack didn't hurt it? I noticed!” It fired another seed, hitting Bargo in the chest and sending him flying. Shadow yelled, “Bargo! Are you hurt?” Getting to his feet, he replied, “No, but I'm getting extremely pissed at it rather quickly.”

Shadow shook his head. He should have known that would be the answer. Bargo was so used to taking hits that his body was almost impervious to damage. Shadow drew his bow and fired an arrow at the creature. Hitting it in what could best be described as it's eye, it turned to him and fired another seed. Deflecting the attack, Shadow yelled, “I think we need a plan!” Mido yelled back, “What about that fire thing you did?”

“I don't even know how I did it the last time!” the dark elf yelled back. He readied his blade to do his cyclone attack and ran at the monster. With a mighty swing and quickly rotating his body, he slashed the creature with great force. The monster went flying and crashed into the ground on it's back. With a mighty leap, shadow inverted his blade and stabbed it into the creature's belly. Acidic blood sprayed from the wound, but this time it was expected. The dark elf managed to jump away from the creature before he could get hit by it's life fluids.

Writhing in pain, the creature scuttled to it's feet and roared. Firing multiple seeds at the warrior, Bargo moved in to deal the next blow. As he charged, the creature started to turn red. Then, it fired a powerful shot that hit the warrior in the chest, sending him flying, blood spraying from his mouth. Liara yelled, “BARGO!!!” as the warrior hit the ground and rolled to a stop, not moving. She took her spear and charged at the monster. Leaping high into the air, she stabbed her spear into the monster.

It thrashed around, trying to shake her lose as she continuously stabbed it in a blind fit of rage. Finally, it tossed her off and charged at her, crashing into her with tremendous force. As she went flying, Mido readied hes blade and stabbed the creature in the head. Roaring, it began to thrash violently. Not as well balanced as the female dark elf, he was thrown off easily and hit the ground.

As it prepared to fire at the Kokiri warrior, Shadow jumped between the two. The seed deflected off his shield and shadow yelled, “Tend to the others! I got ugly!” Mido nodded and ran to the fallen teammates. Shadow looked at he monster and said, “Let's see who walks away from this fight.” The Deku Wraith charged at him and he sidestepped it, slashing deep into it's soil covered body. The monster turned around and repeatedly fired seeds at the warrior as he rushed towards it, stepping between the attacks.

As he reached the creature, he pulled a bomb out of his bag and shoved it into one of it's open wounds. Jumping away, the bomb went off, destroying a section of the plant based fiend. It let out a deafening shriek as it thrashed around. Shadow lowered his shield and looked at his foe. The bomb did the trick. It managed to severely wound the plant based monster far better than the previous attacks. However, he didn't dare do the attack again in fear that the blood released landed on him, causing more irreparable damage.

He continued moving back trying to think of a plan. Then he remembered Saria saying she combined a bomb with an arrow to defeat the Basilisk back in Death Mountain. He drew an arrow and placed the explosive on it. Taking careful aim, he let it lose at the monster. The impact caused a powerful blast that tore a large section off the monster. Then he noticed something.

To his horror, the lost parts of it's body were starting to grow back on. If he was going to beat this creature, then he needed to find a way to finish it off with one shot. He rolled out of the way as it fired another barrage of seeds. At this moment, he got an idea. He readied another explosive arrow and aimed it at the monster. Standing ready, he said, “Open wide, ugly.” The creature turned to him and prepared to fire a charged shot. Releasing his grip on the bow, the arrow flew into the creature's mouth and the dark elf hit the ground, covering his head.

The resulting blast completely destroyed the Wraith, sending it's blood and soil body in every direction. Turning to Mido, he yelled, “I took care of our weed problem!” Mido yelled back, “I'm done treating the others. We're going to have to rest for a bit. We can't risk moving them for a while.” Shadow sighed and sat down. “Great. Well, I guess we can't do anything about it at this point.” A loud screech came from overhead. Standing up, he saw massive banshee swooping down on him.

Standing in shock, he found he didn't have the ability to move out of the way! Closing his eyes to face his inevitable demise, a loud explosion caught his attention. Opening his eyes again, he saw smoke where the creature was and the lifeless corpse of the monster hit the ground safely behind him. Mido yelled, “Who the Hell did THAT?!?”
“That wasn't you?” Shadow exclaimed. Looking around, he couldn't see anyone who could have possibly launched the attack. Looking at the ground, he saw the remains of a throwing dagger by his feet. Picking it up, he muttered silently, “Is this a...” Shaking his head, he finished, “No. That's impossible. They don't exist in this world. The Sheikah died eons ago.”

Again looking at the dagger he couldn't help but wonder how the extinct Sheikah clans weapon lay proof positive in his hand. “What's going on here...” Deciding not to keep thinking about it, he headed to the others.
