LEGEND OF ZELDA

BOOK VI OF THE HYRULE TERMINUS SAGA

THUNDER PLAINS

CHAPTER I

UNDER THE BLACKENED SKY

The group headed through the fields when the sky started turning a menacing darkness, more so than it usually was. Link looked up and said, “I think we're in for a storm.” Shadow nodded. “You couldn't be more right. We're about to enter the thunder plains.” The group looked at him quizzically. Pointing to the sky, he said, “The sky in these plains are always stormy. Lightning and rain are always present. This place is a living hell.” Saria looked at him and asked, “Are you sure it's safe to go through here? Maybe we should find another way around.”

The dark elf shook his head. “Not happening. We need to go through here to get the second blessing. Skull Mountain is in the center of the plains.” Sheik sighed. “Well, that's not very encouraging...” Link smiled. “Oh, come on. A little storm wont hurt us.” The group entered the plains and immediately were pelted with heavy stinging rain and gale force wind. The group looked at the green garbed adventurer with a note of displeasure and he muttered, “This is my first time here! Give me a break!”

Shadow called out, “This is only a mild storm! We don't want to be around when it gets worse!”

党It get's WORSE?!?” Saria yelled in shock. Sheik simply grumbled, “I did not need that news...” Link turned to the others and yelled, “We'll have to leave the horses. It's too dangerous for them to continue!” Shadow, Sheik and Saria all yelled, “What about US?!?” Link dismounted from Epona and said, “Get somewhere safe. We'll be alright from here.” The horse whinnied and took off to the safer area. The other three followed suit.

As the mounts took to safety, Saria yelled to Link, “I sure as hell hope you know what you're doing, Tree-Boy! I'm not really in the mood to die out here!” The Kokiri ignored the comment and started heading towards their next destination. Shadow caught up with him and said, “Hey, What's up? You've been acting really weird since we left the badlands. Care to explain what's running through your leafy head?”

Link looked at him and said coldly, “Gee, I don't know, try and guess.” The dark elf muttered, “If this has to do with Saria...” Cutting him off, the Kokiri said, “No, that's not what it's about. You went running half cocked into that swamp hunting a giant spider. If it wasn't for the fact that Sheik followed you, All four of us would be DEAD! You don't think about what will happen if you get careless, and at some point, It'll cost not just you, but all of us our lives!”

The dark elf snapped back, “And if I didn't try, You'd all be dead Regardless! Why don't you try showing some gratitude when someone helps? Or are you too used to always being the Goddess damned Hero?” Link glared at him coldly, then turned to walk off. Shadow grabbed his shoulder, yelling, “I asked you a question!” Link turned around and Punched the Dark elf square in the face, causing him to stagger back. Link took his sword and shield, tossing them to the ground, saying, “I've had about enough of you, Shadow.”

Shadow removed his weapons, saying, “Time to knock some sense back into your head.” The two warriors charged at each other and began trading powerful blows. Saria went to step between the two when Sheik put his hand on her shoulder to stop her. Looking at him, the warrior simply said, “No. They have to do this. It might sound harsh, but this is what they need right now.” The female looked at him, wanting to protest, but the truth was that Sheik was rarely ever wrong.

Shadow spun around and landed a powerful backhand to the kokiri, but for some reason it hardly affected him. His widened in shock as Link looked at him, eyes glowing red. The kokiri punched him hard enough to knock him to the ground. Shadow picked himself up and looked at the warrior. He still wanted to knock some sense into the youth's head, but a powerful urge told him to stay down. Link glared at him and said, “That all you got, Shadow? I'm still standing.”

After a moment of the two glaring at each other, the blond warrior said, “Just as I thought. Nothing.” grabbing his weapons, he stormed off into the Thunder Plains. Saria yelled, “LINK!!” The warrior continued into the storm and vanished into the darkness. In a fit of anger, she grabbed her spear and charged at Shadow. As she reached him and moved to strike, Sheik appeared between the two and grabbed the spear before it could strike home. “Sheik? What...”

Without answering, Shadow said, “You noticed as well, didn't you?” The warrior nodded. “Yeah. I did. What's happening to him?” Saria looked at the two of them confused. Standing up and wiping blood from his mouth and nose, he said, “His darkness is taking over his mind.” The two of them stood there a moment before asking, “What do you mean, “Darkness”?” Shadow looked at the sky and said, “He's more like me than he cares to believe. Seeing how he could have been, It scared him. Now the darkness that he feared is slowly taking over his body and making him dangerous, to us as well as himself.”

Saria shook her head and said, “Sorry, but I think you lost us somewhere around the part of him being like you. That's Impossible. He's a Kokiri, not a Dark World creature. You have to be Lying.” Sheik shook his head and replied, “No, He's not.” The others looked at him stunned. “I can say that with honesty because I noticed it not long after I was found by your father in Kokiri Forest. Link has always walked alongside us with an ominous essence looming over him. I figured out the fact that he was a Dark World being... well, half. Just as Shadow is part Hylian... more specifically, Kokiri.”

Shadow turned to him and asked, “You found that out just by being with us?” Sheik nodded. “Enough with the darkness over who you really are. If we are going to accomplish our mission, you NEED to tell us who you really are. We can't be expected to trust someone who isn't willing to let himself trust us.” Saria looked at him confused. Shadow nodded and said, “The truth is, there is a reason that we were the only ones who survived the Hyrule Terminus. We are all half of each world.”

Turning to Sheik, he said, “You, Sheik. Your true name is Sheikaruta, son of Sheikah mother Sura and Gerudo thief Rugaldo.” Turning to Saria, he said, “Your Father was the former leader of the Badlands Kokiri named Sarto, Bargo's older brother, and mother named Saria. You were named after her when she died during childbirth. Your real name is what you are called.”

Sheik nodded. “I think I'm starting to see where this is going. Link is a halfbreed as well.” Shadow nodded and said, “That's right. He's my twin brother. My true name is Chain.” Sitting down, Saria said, “I think you need to start from the beginning.”
