CHAPTER VIII
…AND BACK AGAIN
“It’s not easy being a perfect. Makes you wonder just where, exactly you went wrong.” – The very phrase that made everyone question Shadow’s sanity
Chaos laughed. “It would appear that my former master has completely lost whatever grasp of sanity he had. He actually thinks your pathetic race is stopping me? The flawless blend of chaos infused with the ultimate life form?” Shadow cleared his throat and said, “Just for the record, I’m standing right here, moron.” Chaos looked at him and said, “Yes, you might not be in my body anymore, but I still have your energy in my body. Chaos energy fuels me. The more you give me, the more I grow.”
Sonic smiled. “Well, then I know just how to beat you.” Everyone looked at him and he smiled. “We give you so much power, you blow up.” Amy summoned her hammer and prepared to strike when Tails added, “You took the words right out of my mouth.” The teen smiled and said, “Ready, pal?” He then tossed the six emeralds he had towards the blue armored teen. Shadow yelled, “Hey! Are you trying to kill…” His words trailed off as Sonic grabbed the emeralds and started to emit a powerful aura. Shadow smiled. And pulled out the emerald he possessed, saying, “Hey, numb nuts. Catch.” He tossed the emerald at the young man and burst into a blinding light.
When the light dissipated, Sonic had completely changed. His armor was a radiant gold and his hair as white as the freshly fallen snow. He turned to Shadow and said, “Do you still feel like the ultimate life form, Shadow?” The black haired male started pouting. Suddenly, he made quick snapping motions to grab the seven emeralds that had been unexpectedly lobbed in his direction. Instantly, he too was engulfed in a brilliant radiance. When the light faded, shadow stood there with an identical outfit to Sonic, but the colors reversed.
“White? My name is Shadow and I’m wearing freaking white?”
Shut up and just deal with it!”
Sonic sighed. “Tails, You had better find a way to separate our worlds again.” Shadow asked, “What was that?”
“I’ll explain later. Right now, it’s time to teach this guy a lesson.” Chaos laughed. “The power of seven Chaos Emeralds. Suicide for anyone, but pure power for you. Tell me, just what do you call these forms that I will feed on?” Sonic smiled. “I like the name, Super Sonic. Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?” Shadow smiled. “Sounds like someone has been playing one too many video games.”
Super Sonic turned to his counterpart and retorted, “Oh yeah? And what do you call yourself?” The man smiled and said, “Super Shadow, of course.” The two of them looked at each other angrily before Super shadow chuckled. “You were right. The name was catchy.” Chaos looked at them angrily. “You have chaos flowing through your very beings! You should be corrupt! Destructive! Feeding me with your darkness! Why are you…?” Knuckles laughed loudly. “By the Gods, you’re dense! Chaos isn’t pure evil, creature. It’s nothing more than a reflection of your soul. Sorry, demon, but it seems like you got the short end of the stick on this one.”
He turned to the supercharged duo and said, “How do you two feel about helping him out?” Super Sonic smiled. “Only if you mean…”
“Out of town,” his companion finished. With that the two of them vanished. This speed was useless, as Chaos stood unaffected. “Well, the creature laughed. Looks like were all capable of what your species call Chaos Control,” it said. “What do you plan to do now?” The golden extended his hand and a sword appeared. “Hey, Remember this?” Super Shadow created one of his own. “I’d Hey, this isn’t M4A1 3.16 carbine! This sucks! Are you telling…” He was interrupted as Super Sonic pushed him to the ground, just barely preventing him from receiving a permanent part in his hair.
“Hey! Less whining, more fighting!” Chaos laughed and said, “You two are more likely to kill each other than harm me.” He created a sword and approached them. The pair continued to argue and Chaos prepared to strike when Super Sonic yelled, “If you keep this up, you moron, I’m going to give you a taste of this!” As he yelled the last word, he gave a solid kick to the creature’s groin. Chaos doubled over in agony as the pair stood up and the gold warrior said between laughs, “I don’t know what’s hurting him more, the kick to the crotch, or the kicking he’s giving his backside.” Super Shadow let out a disgruntled sigh. “I see it, but I still can’t believe he fell for that.”
A powerful surge of energy shot forth from Ultimate Chaos’ body and sent them stumbling backwards. “Uh, Shadow? I think we pissed him off.”
“You think?” the look alike yelled. “You kicked him in the freaking pills! Of course he’s going to be pissed! We’d better hurry up and do this!” The two of them charged at the creature and broke of in opposite directions and began running around their foe. Ultimate Chaos laughed and said, “You’re not going to catch me off guard a second time, mortals.” Super Sonic lunged and the creature easily evaded before landing a powerful blow to his stomach, sending him flying. Super Shadow initiated his own attack.
The creature hit him into the air and jumped after him. Super Shadow to his movement and snapped his arms up in time to block the attack before getting hit to the ground. Super Sonic ran to his companions side and said, “That was four. Can you stand up?” His ally forced himself to his feet and said, “Yeah. Two more attacks and we’ll have no power left. This plan of yours had better work, because it looks like the only thing we’re pulling off is making him stronger.”
“Trust me, this plan will work. Come on, man. Let’s make these two attacks worth it.” Super Shadow nodded and the two turned to their opponent. Ultimate Chaos smiled and said, “I see. So your bodies can’t handle the power of the of the Chaos Emeralds for long. How unfortunate.” Super Sonic smiled and replied, “ Two is all we need to take you down.” With that, the two of them charged in for a full frontal assault. Ultimate Chaos smiled and dodged past the two warriors.
In a flash of light, Sonic and Shadow were reverted to their normal state. Ultimate Chaos stood in front of them, laughing maniacally. “Well. It would appear that the two of you have run out of power. What do you plan to do now?” Sonic went into a thoughtful look before smiling. “Well, the idea of listening to you gloat on and on and come up with some underhanded scheme to beat you, but I think we’ll stick to the one we were already using.”
“You’re joking, right?” the creature cackled. “You couldn’t lay a single finger on me, and you act as though you already won.” Shadow shrugged and replied, “We didn’t plan to land any punches. We’re not that stupid… Well, Maybe Sonic, but not me.” He pulled a Chaos Emerald out of his pocket and said, “Oh, yeah. Catch.” He tossed the emerald at Ultimate Chaos. Knuckles yelled, “Shadow! What are you doing?” The man smiled. “Finishing this farce.” With that, the creature caught the emerald and was surrounded by pure energy.
