CHAPTER IX
GAME OVER: CONTINUE? (x3)
“I’m not buying you that damned dress! You can’t even walk into your walk-in closet!” – Amy asked, Sonic answered.
Shadow turned to Sonic, saying, “I gave it the Chaos Emerald. So why isn’t your plan working?” Ultimate Chaos smiled. “If your plan was to die, then you succeeded.” He lunged forward, but for some reason, was not able to move even at the pace of a human. It was as if he was getting weaker with every passing second. Knuckles yelled, “What did the two of you do?” Sonic smiled. ‘Well, The Chaos Emeralds draw their power from chaos energy, right?” The creature yelled, “No one Emerald can’t draw that power! What did you really do?”
Shadow let out a chuckle and said, “you didn’t think that it was weird that you were getting stronger from our attacks? There was a reason for that.” The blue haired teen continued, “Yep. While we fought you, we didn’t plan to hit you from the start. Instead, we did it to distract you while we planted the Chaos Emeralds on you. We figured that six emerald’s is the limit to what you can draw from.”
Tails shouted, “I get it! When you two ran out of power, it was because you couldn’t draw enough power from only one!”
“Bingo!” sonic replied. He then turned to Ultimate Chaos. “When Shadow tossed you the seventh, they started doing what the always do. Draw power from chaos, and at the moment, you’re an all you can eat buffet. And right about now…”
Shadow drew his pistol and said, “You should be fresh out of power.” With that said, he aimed the weapon at the creature and fired. The round hit Chaos in the center of the head and his body froze in place. When this happened, it’s body turned into stone and Shadow said, “Your turn, Sonic.” The teen called his blade and lunged at the creature’s form, thrusting the weapon through it’s chest. Chaos’ body was then absorbed into the weapon.
Amy looked at Knuckles and said, “Thank the gods that’s over with. We’re not going to have to worry about something like this for a long time, right?” Sonic shook his head and replied, “Wish it were that simple.” Everyone turned to him confused. “Nazo isn’t in my body anymore. This fight is only getting started. Chaos nothing more than a warm-up.” What do you mean he’s not in your body?” Knuckles yelled. “You’re the same person!” Sonic shook his head. “When we found ourselves here, Shadow was not in that Chaos guy anymore and the rest of us weren’t dead anymore. Plus, I could have sworn I saw Nazo thing disappear out of the corner of my eye.”
Knuckles shook his head, muttering, “That’s nonsense. Why would he bring the people who plan to stop him back from the dead. That’s the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.”
Tails interrupted him, saying, “Process of elimination. Rather than fighting, he got us to do it for him. Use one problem to destroy another. Meanwhile he studies the fight and learns from it so he can use our strategies against us.” Sonic nodded. “Exactly. This fight isn’t over by a long shot.”

When the group arrived at Angel Island, Tikal ran to them and said, “Knuckles! We have a problem!” The guardian looked at her and said, “What’s wrong? You look like you’re losing your energies.” Shadow replied, “She is. I don’t know why, but the color has left her body.” Tikal yelled, “The Master Emerald is being drained of all it’s power. Eggman found a way to steal it’s power and he plans to conquer the earth with it.”
Shadow turned to Sonic and said, “We can’t go after both Eggman and Nazo. The Master Emerald can wait.” Knuckles shook his head. “No, it can’t. If the Master emerald loses it’s power. This island will fall into the ocean. When that happens, the ambient energies within this place will result in an explosion that will destroy the us, the island and every on within this hemisphere. The chaotic energies will then spread and poison the rest of the planet. Nazo couldn’t care less about fighting us. I think he might even be partly to blame for this.”
“Another test, “ Sonic mused. “Wouldn’t put it past him.” Knuckles looked at him and said, “If you go after Eggman, I won’t stop you, but I can’t help you either. I have to stick to the code.” Tikal shook her head. “There is no reason to follow the code at this point.” everyone turned to her in shock. “The seven Chaos Emeralds were taken by one of Eggman’s weapons, and the Master Emerald is losing it’s power. Knuckles, the time to watch is over. Now, it time that the guardians have to get involved. It’s not only the lives of this planet at steak.”
Sonic nodded, “Yeah. If we’re going to win this, we need all the help we can get.” Knuckles nodded. “Okay. I’m in.” Tails yelled, “Me too.” Amy chimed in “Count me in, but you’re going to owe me for this.” Everyone turned to Shadow and he muttered, “Sure, I’ll go, but I’m not joining your team to help you. I’m doing this so I can prove to you all that I am the superior being.” The group looked at each other blankly for a moment before Sonic chimed, “Whatever works. Come on, everyone! Let’s Ro-butt-nick we mean business!” With that, the group ran off to fight on the next stage that leads to their true target. Sonic yelled, “Watch out world, Here come the Chaotix!”
