SONIC BLITZ

BOOK I OF THE CHAOTIX TRILOGY

OF CHAOS BORN

QUESTIONS WITH THE AUTHOR I

Hey! Sonic! I know you’re there and you have questions, so come on out!

Sonic stepped out from behind a tree, saying, “How’d you know that I wasn’t looking for this Eggman guy?”

Story’s over dude. You won’t be looking for him until the next installment. Now let’s get started.

“Okay. Number one on the list is obvious. I’m a human in the story and a hedgehog everywhere else. What’s that all about? I feel a little out of character like this.”

Oh, that one. Well, that’s not hard to figure out. I wanted to be original with this story, so I changed a couple of things. All the characters like were based on your games made by SEGA. The thing is, as cool as it was to have a walking, talking animal as a star, it seems lately that all the games take place on a planet dominated by humans.

“Yeah? So?”

Well, that seemed a little unrealistic. So instead, I took the general abilities of the characters and made them more along the lines of humans who evolved to have these abilities. In the story, I used chaos energy as the cause of this evolution.

“Sounds like something Tails would come up with.”

I know. Next question?

“Amy Rose. She’s supposed to have a crush on me, but you made her my sister. What’s up with that? Also, what’s with the whole magic thing?”

Good question. In the games and show, you’re right. She does love you. You don’t. I could have stuck with that, but the concept of having a whole romance angle to the story would be a little tricky since I don’t know the full details about that in particular. The web doesn’t have much insight on that either, so my research on that was limited. As for the other question, she has the ability to summon her Piko Piko hammer…

“Yeah, thanks for that, by the way. My head still hurts from the whack I got in chapter one.”

*clearing throat* As I was saying, since she can summon the hammer, the possibility that she can utilize other abilities, like levitation and projectiles she used in the story, could in fact be achievable with the right training and focus. I figured she’s too young to cast many spells and such, so stick to basic magic abilities. Again, my resources were limited, so I had to make things up as I went along.

Okay, here’s a good one. Tails is supposed to be able to fly. How do you explain that little oversight?”

I didn’t overlook that, dye-job.

“Hey! Don’t diss the hair!”

Back to the question. Yes, tails can fly in the original concepts. He uses his tails in a circular motion to get him off the ground. Since he’s a human, that becomes impossible. That’s why his armor has jets. Same concept, just more realistic.

“Well, Knuckles can fly. Justify that one.”

Knuckles is an ancient guardian of a very powerful, ancient and dangerous energy that he’s been pretty much exposed to for his entire life. His ability to fly is done by controlling the power that was absorbed into his body his entire life. I mean, think about it. Who’s ever heard of a flying echidna?

“Ever heard of a tornado?”

Ha, ha. That doesn’t count. Next question please.

“We broke the forth wall in this story. What’s the deal with that, and what is the fourth wall, anyway?”

I’m sure a few people want to know the answer to that one. The fourth wall is sort of a barrier between fantasy and reality. Take a pencil drawing for example. There’s the paper. The face of it is like a wall that you can draw on without getting grounded.

“If only.”

Hey, I’m trying to explain. Now, the minute the pencil crosses the paper, the first wall creates two more walls, consisting of foreground, like where you’re standing, and background, let’s use a cliff as an example. So the first wall, when drawn on stays. But in that wall, two more walls, foreground and background, making three walls.

“What about the fourth?

That would be the viewer. Games, books, art, photos, they all have what is called a fourth wall that separates them from the person looking at them. Breaking the fourth wall is a term for when the characters know that there is a viewer and makes direct contact with them. I figured it would be fun to break the fourth wall so that a little humor could be added. It also allows us to have this little session we’re having, instead of trying to explain it in a prologue or something else along those lines.

“Okay, got another. Who’s this Eggman guy, and if he’s such a big creep, why was he just a filler?”

Well, in the Sonic universe, Doctor Ivo Robotnik, also known as Doctor Eggman, is a standing enemy in all chapters that have come out to date, whether the main antagonist or just a cameo like in the Shadow the Hedgehog spinoff game, he always manages to show his face. It would only be natural that I include him. The idea of his soldiers known as Swat Bots and his nephew Snively were from a TV series that was spawned in the 1980’s and his weapon Metal Sonic is a mainstay as well.

“What can you tell me about this Metal Sonic thing and why does it look like me?”

Well, Metal Sonic was designed to be a weapon capable of fighting on equal grounds with Sonic’s throughout the ages, and the design was based on Sonic The Hedgehog. That’s the reason for the appearance. In this story, since you are human, the Metal Sonic’s were too, but looking like you as well. You can plan to see more of Metal Sonic and Eggman in the future.

“Thanks for the warning. One last question.”

Shoot.

“Who is Chaos and Nazo?”

“Originally, chaos was supposed to be a creature called a Chao, which was a artificial life form from mini-games in the Sonic universe, that was mutated by the Chaos Emeralds and is originally a guardian for them. It gets stronger with every emerald it absorbs and realistically can absorb all seven to form Perfect Chaos. Since I made him an enemy who could leech chaos energy, I needed a way to counter it’s power. So I came up with the idea of overloading it when all seven were absorbed. The way I see it, it was functional. You can only absorb  so much before it becomes too much, which is what happened in the last chapter.

“And Nazo?”

Nazo was a creature in the opening credits for the show Sonic-X broadcasted on Fox Saturdays. Never introduced into the storyline the Japanese called him Nazo, which means mystery. He looks like sonic and appears to be powerful. On the website www.newgrounds.com there is a flash video called Ultimate Nazo and broken into three chapters. With absolutely no history or identity, the flash video serves as the only reference material in existence, and that doesn’t say much.

Since in all realism he doesn’t exist, I need to continue to mix-and-match ideas during the process of the trilogy while writing and brainstorming as well as when I have any free time in between. It’s really hard to use an existing sonic character that at the same time doesn’t exist at all. At present, this enigma might help or hinder on a whim as well as other things, depending on if I can use it to progress the storyline without making him seem like he doesn’t care about his own goal. Like I said, this is not going to be an easy character to work with. Any final questions?

Sonic smiled and said, “No. I’m good until the next installment, but I have one favor to ask.”

Okay, what.?

“Could you give me some more of those chili dogs? They were the bomb!”

Goodbye!!!
