CHAPTER V
HEAVY METAL
“I think the better question is how did they sneak up on us with a platoon of tanks?” Shadow replying his unit’s obvious question when surprised by the enemy
When the lifeboat landed, the group stepped out and watched as the entire fleet fell from the sky and crash just outside the Delta City limits. Sonic let out a low whistle and said, “What a mess. Makes me wonder.” Shadow looked at him and asked, “What are you rambling about this time?” Amy replied, “I think he means if this is going to added to the repairs that he’s still trying to pay off to the city.” The black haired warrior stood there blankly.
At that moment, a powerful blast landed near the group, sending them flying. Eggman Nega hovered above them in a strange egg-like chair, saying” That was a warning shot. You won’t be so lucky the next time.” Sonic yelled, “Big mistake. You won’t get another perfect…” Another blast sent him flying as it landed directly next to him. He hit the ground, armor cracked and peeling, yelling, “Dammit! You proved your point!”
Shadow pulled a heavy machine gun out from under his shirt, saying, “You’re going down.” Eggman Nega looked at the warrior for a long moment, then asked, “Just where, exactly, did you manage to hide that?” Shadow yelled, “Hey! I’m just a secondary character! Ask the guy writing this stuff!” The black haired man opened fire on the strange craft and Eggman Nega simply laughed. “Your attacks are useless. This craft, as well as my body, is completely impervious to attack. I am the true, ultimate life form.”
Sonic yelled, “Let’s see how cocky you are when I cut your can open!” He charged at the machine and slashed. Before the weapon made contact, it was blocked by an energy barrier and the blue haired teen found himself being repelled. He hit the ground and rolled several feet before stopping. Tails yelled, “He’s got some kind of force field!” Sonic and Shadow both yelled, “We noticed!” The two warriors looked at each other for a moment before Shadow asked, “Any ideas?”
Sonic smiled and replied, “Just one. All you have to do is keep shooting.” The black clad warrior smiled. “Don’t say another word. I like it.” The counterpart stood there blankly, then said, “Right. Well then, start shooting already.” Shadow aimed the weapon and opened fire while sonic started looking around the immediate area. Tails yelled, “”What’s your plan, Sonic?” The blue haired teen continued scanning the scene, then smiled. “Hey, Knux! I need an lift!”
The guardian ran over to him and said, “As much as I like the idea of tossing you around, I hope whatever you have up your sleeve works.” Sonic turned to him and replied, “Just shut up and throw me.”Knuckles nodded and grabbed his arm. With a mighty heave, the blue warrior was sent hurdling into the air. He readied his sword and when close enough, he sliced through a telephone cable. The moment he landed, he crabbed the wire and said, “Here we go!”
Sonic charged at Eggman Nega and yelled, “Let’s see how you like this!” slamming the cable into the strange craft, electrical current surged throughout the machine. The transformer it was connected to overloaded and sent sparks flying to the ground. Shadow yelled, “What was that supposed to do?” The blue haired teen smiled and lunged at the vehicle and ran his blade into it. The device started to shake violently as it lost power and fell to the ground.
Eggman Nega climbed out of the craft and said, “You’re going to pay for that, meat sack.” Sonic smirked and said, “Put it on my bill.” The robust machine extended it’s arms and a pair of blades shot out. “I will make your deaths slow and painful.” Sonic and Shadow both muttered, “Yeah, yeah. Just bring it.” The machine suddenly replicated itself and the pair found themselves surrounded by ten Eggman’s.
All the Eggman clones said, “Time to die.” They group then clustered them and began running around the two warriors. They found themselves being slashed in a cold and calculated fashion. Sonic swung at one of them and his hand went clean through it. “What the…?” he yelled. Shadow then yelled, “Get Down!” Sonic ducked and a powerful blast sent the cluster of clones flying. The black clad warrior muttered, “How do we figure out which is the real Nega?”
The cluster started circling the pair again when Sonic let out a smile. As the group prepared to attack, The teen lunged at one of them and hit it hard enough to send it flying. The copies were also knocked back.” Sonic smiled and said, “That’s not going to work anymore. There might be ten of you running around us, but only one of you has swords.”
Shadow looked at the cluster and smiled. “What do you say we end this little disaster, right here, right now.” Sonic nodded. “Yeah, lets.” The two warriors lunged at the machine and started landing powerful blows to it’s metallic body. They continued, but they could not seem to serious damage to it’s structure. Sonic looked at Amy and said as he readied his sword, “Care to lend me some juice?”
The female smiled and made delicate movements with her hands. Shortly, the blade let out a radiant glow. The teen handed the blade to the double and said, “Here you go.” Shadow smiled and took the weapon. “Thanks. I’ve had it in for this guy from day one.” The black clad warrior charged at the machine and circled him at a high rate of speed. The machine tried to track his movements and said, “You aren’t going to land that attack. I can keep track of your movements like it were a crawl.”
Suddenly, the Chaos Blade went through the machine’s torso and said, “We know. That’s why Shadow gave back the sword.” Pulling the blade out, Eggman Nega fell to the ground. The group sat down in a state of relief. Amy looked at the group and said, “By the Gods, that was a royal pain in the ass.” The others nodded in agreement. After a long moment, Tails said, “I’m going to see if I can salvage Eggman Nega’s data core. We might need it if we want to fight Nazo.”
Sonic muttered, “Not much chance of that, little buddy.” the group looked up and followed Sonic’s gaze. Eggman Nega’s body was no longer where it fell. Amy yelled, “What? No way! How did it…?” Sonic shook his head. “We can’t worry about that right now.” He pointed to the sky and said, “Nazo’s already started making his first move. Time to finish this.”
