CHAPTER I
SWARMED
“I don’t think what’s left of my unit is very happy with me right now.” – Shadow when his grenade launcher misfired.
The group looked at the burning sky and remained motionless. Sonic said, “Oh, boy. There is absolutely no way in hell that this is a good sign.” Amy looked at him and muttered, “Gee, you think?” The blue haired teen shook his head. “Not if I can help it. It gives me a headache. What’s with the sky?” Knuckles looked at him and said “Have you ever heard of the rapture?” Tails nodded. “Yeah. The four horsemen. What about it?”
Amy said, “If it’s like I think, Chaos was pestilence, since his energy infected people. Eggman Nega was famine, since he stole the very energy of the planet, robbing it of it’s life force. Metal sonic was War, since it was a combat weapon…”
“And Nazo is the very essence of destruction,” Shadow concluded. “Death incarnate. There is a very good chance we might not win this fight.”
The black haired warrior was knocked to the ground as Sonic landed a bone jarring punch to his face. “Listen up, everyone!” he snapped. “I will not have anyone talk like that! Do you hear me?!?” His companions looked at him stunned. “Lets face it,” he continued. “In all honesty, I’m the dumbest one here. I spent four years in grade two, for Chaos sake. But the way I see it, that works to my advantage, because when I look Nazo in the eyes, he’s going to know he’s going down because I am stupid. In fact, he’s going to learn that I’m too stupid to die and I’m going to bash that fact into his head over and over and over again until I finish him off. And I’ll be damned if anyone tells me otherwise!!!”
The group looked at him blankly for a long moment before bursting out in laughter. Amy wiped the tears from her eyes and said, “That’s got to be the dumbest thing you have ever said.” Tail added, “Yeah, it is. All in favor of being as stupid as Sonic, raise your right hand.” everyone rose their hand and Knuckles concluded, “It’s unanimous. Time to ditch the brains. Let’s do this.” The group headed deep into the city to find the mysterious entity that was the herald of this apocalypse.
As they entered the central core, they found the entire street littered with corpses. Amy said in a repulsed voice, “This is horrible. What caused them to die?” Shadow, who was kneeling next to one of the bodies, said, “Good question. There are no wounds on the bodies. They look like they simply dropped dead where they were standing.” Knuckles Shook his head. “They didn’t simply drop dead. Their bodies were completely overloaded with raw Chaos energy, destroying them from the inside. It’s not a pleasant way to die.”
Sonic looked around and asked, “Well, it would look like asking for directions is a bit out of the question. What’s the plan?” Tails thought for a minute before saying, “I’d use my sensors, but with the sky burning from chaos energy, I couldn’t track a turtle stampeding through peanut butter three feet in front of me.” Everyone looked at him blankly. “I just sounded like Sonic back there, didn’t I?” The group nodded and the young genius sighed. “I beginning to reach the point of intervention.”
Sonic said in a stunned voice, “Uh, do you guy remember those corpses we were just talking about?” Amy sighed. “What about them?”
“I don’t have much experience with them, but are they supposed to just get to their feet and walk?” The group turned in the direction he was staring and noticed that all the bodies were in fact rising to their feet. As the corpses started looking around, sonic muttered, “When this turn from a Sonic fan-fiction and into a Resident Evil spin-off?”
One of the undead police officers pulled his pistol out of his holster and fired at them. They ran for cover and Sonic yelled, “I stand corrected! It’s DOOM spoof!” Shadow drew a sniper rifle, saying, “I’m not sure about you guys, but I think we should take these things pretty seriously.” Sonic summoned his sword and replied, “No, really? I thought these bullets flying past my head was just their way of giving a friendly hello!”
Knuckles snapped, “Will the two of just shut up and do something?” Sonic smiled and said, “You got it, Knux.” With that, he ran at the reanimated corpses and vanished as he assumed his fastest speed. Suddenly, people were sent flying by excessive high speed punches. Shadow smiled. “No sense letting him have all the fun.” He too ran at a phenomenally high rate of speed. Amy then yelled, “Are you two just going to just stand there and let them do all the work?”
Knuckles shrugged. “Thinking about it.” Amy summoned her Piko-Piko hammer and stormed towards Tails and Knuckles. The pair looked at each other briefly before Tails said, “I’d rather deal with a million zombies than one angry Amy.” Knuckles nodded and they ran off to join the fray. Amy looked around and noticed there were more zombies entering the city core.
The pink haired summoner extended her hand and a wall of fire engulfed the area, blocking all entry from the swarming undead horde. She turned to everyone and yelled, “Hey, you guys! Hurry the hell up! The flame isn’t going to hold them off for long!” Sonic grabbed one of the corpses and started spinning it around. Then, with a mighty heave, tossed the creature into a large incoming group. He yelled, “Shadow! Put the gun away!”
The black haired warrior turned to him and replied, “Why?” Sonic groaned. “What are you planning to do with it? Kill them again?” Shadow stood there for a long moment with a dumb look on his face, before saying, “Huh. Didn’t think of that.” Amy yelled, “Just get out of here and find Nazo! I’ll give these things a tan they’ll never forget.”
Sonic yelled, “Don’t tell me that…” Amy replied, ”Just get out of here! If you don’t close the chaos gates, zombies will be the least of your problems! This is what I’ve trained my entire life for, so let me do my job!” Sonic stood there for a long moment before saying, “Got it.” He prepared to run, but stopped to say, “Sorry I wasn’t a better brother.” Amy chuckled and said, “If you don’t get out of here, I’ll smash you with my hammer again.”
Sonic nodded. He extended his arm with his thumb in the air and yelled, “Okay, guys! Let’s blow this chili dog stand!” The group ran off and Amy said, “Well, Sonic, It’s been a blast. Let’s have one more.” A powerful aura permeated from her body and caused the whole city to tremble. When she had gathered enough energy, she yelled, “Final Summon! FIRE OF THE DEMON LORD!” With that, Amy, and everything else that still remained in the city, was completely devoured by the fires of hell itself.
Outside the city limits, on a cliff overlooking Delta City, Sonic looked at the purple, demonic flames and said, “Okay, guys. Nazo has taken everything from us. It’s about time we pay him back in spades.”
