CHAPTER II
GAME START
“You know, out of all the things I’ve lost in life, I think I miss my mind the most.” – random comment from Sonic at a seminar
The group followed traveled East with Knuckles in the lead. Sonic sighed and said, “Hey, Knux. Where the heck are you taking us?” The red haired guardian looked at him and replied, “I’m sensing a powerful energy coming from this direction. I believe if we follow it, we’ll find Nazo.” tails commented in a worried voice, “I’m not sure it’s a good idea to take him on. I mean, we’re not warriors. We’re just high school students. We don’t even know what’s really going on.”
Sonic nodded. “I know, Tails, but whether we like it or not, we’re caught in the middle of this mess. And as far as I’m concerned, I’m going to end this fight before more people get hurt. I’ve lost everything, and I’m not going to lose my planet on top of that. This fight ends today.” Shadow added, “We don’t have a choice but to fight this battle. We’re the only ones who aren’t affected by the high Chaos levels. I’m almost certain that the whole world hangs on what we do from this point on.”
Sonic suddenly yelled, “Think fast!” A large creature shot past, just barely missing the group. Knuckles yelled, “Wraiths! Everyone, find cover!” The group scattered and hid behind debris. Shadow drew an assault rifle and aimed it at the creature. Knuckles yelled, “Don’t shoot!” The warning came too late as the warrior fired at the creature.” The monster was hit in the head, but rather than fall, it started burning in a flaming miasma. It then launched a powerful ball of black flame at the group.
The heat was unbearable as the flames scorched the area. Tails yelled, “What the hell just happened? That shot should have killed it!” Knuckles yelled back, “You can’t kill a Reaper Wraith with a conventional weapon! They’re immortal!” The creature continued bombarding the area and Sonic muttered, “Damn.” He looked around and noticed a few high structures in the distance. He turned to Shadow and yelled, “Hey, Douche Bag! Give me a gun! I need to get a shot in on that thing!” Shadow looked at him and yelled, “What? Have you completely lost your mind? That’s just going to piss it off even more!”
“That’s the freaking idea! Now give me a damned gun!” Shadow tossed him a pistol and the blue haired warrior caught it.” He ran into the open and fired at the creature. The monster turned to Sonic and let out a maddening screech. It prepared to shoot fire at him and the speedy teen started running. The Wraith went in pursuit. As he ran, Sonic fired at the beast to make sure he kept it’s attention. He continued until he reached the structures.
He charged at one of the walls and jumped at it. He then continued to leap off the wall and onto another nearby. Continuing this pattern, he reached a point where he was able to jump at the Wraith. As he neared it’s head, he called forth his sword and landed on top of the hellish creature. The monster immediately attempted to try and shake the hero off it’s back, but Sonic managed a solid grip and did not let go.
He raised his blade and thrust it into the monster’s back in a repeated stabbing motion. The Wraith fell to the ground and shook itself violently in hopes of dislodging it’s unwanted passenger. Sonic stood up and ran at the creatures head, jumped into the air, and brought the blade down on it’s neck in a powerful slash. The beasts head fell from it’s body and the monster fell lifeless to the ground before turning into a cloud of black miasma.
Sonic let out a sigh of relief. The others caught up to him and Knuckles said, “Good job. I didn’t think anyone could defeat one of those creatures.” Shadow looked up to the sky and said, “Look sharp, everyone! Here come a lot more!” Sure enough, a large group of creatures started coming down from the sky. Knuckles turned to them and said, “I’m going to close the demon gates. It’ll slow them down a fair deal.” Sonic looked at him and said, “How are you going to do that?”
Knuckles removed his coat and stood there in a finely designed outfit with radiant wings protruding from his back. He looked at the group and said, “The only way I know how. You three have to find and stop Nazo. I’ll be watching your progress alongside the gods I serve.” His wings began to shimmer with a prismatic glow and he said, “I pray for you your success.” With that, the guardian completely changed into a beautiful light and he shot into the air,
The remaining three watched as the light that was now Knuckles crashed into the Chaos gate and the holes that filled the sky caved in on themselves. The nearby creatures got sucked into the collapsing gates and vanished. Sonic looked at the sky and said, “Damn it, Knux. How do you expect us to do this alone?” Shadow turned to Sonic and said, “We’d better continue going East. We just got ourselves one more score to settle with that bastard.” The blue haired warrior nodded and said, “Let’s get going before we lose someone else.”
