BOOK III OF THE HUNTER TRILOGY
CHAPTER IX
WILEY
Looking at the remains of his destroyed enemy, he knew that the war was finally over. He could finally leave this nightmare war far behind. He turned to leave, and paused to let out a sigh of relief. That decision proved disastrous as an energy beam sliced through his armor and body as though it were air. Falling to his knees, he weakly turned around to see Bass had once again gotten to his feet, healing with remarkable speed. “What?” Sputtered Rock. “Bass?” The now red-eyed Bass laughed. His voice and tone were different... Familiar...
“Bass?” The creature laughed. “Hardly, the incompetent fool. Do you not remember your old friend?” After a moment, a look of realization crossed the Hunter's face. “Wiley!!!” Laughing, the husk cackled, “That's correct. This is the true form of the Wiley Virus, my foolish adversary. Too bad you didn't notice it sooner Not I will be your executioner, and I will crush the humans with my superior Maverick army. Best of all, this time you are truly powerless to stop me!!!”
He was right. The damage from the last strike was extensive... but not treatable. If what Bass said was true, there was one way, and it was extremely risky. At the same time, there was no other choice. Pulling off his helmet, he drove his hand into it, causing a loud cracking sound. Placing the helmet back on his head, his body started to regenerate with remarkable speed. Wiley smiled as the warrior's eyes turned red. As he rose to his feet, Wiley smiled. “That, my friend, was foolish. In minutes, you will be under the complete control of the Wiley Virus. Then I will take your form as well.”
Rock closed his eyes with a labored look. Saying quietly, “If I can copy any ability, I know two right off the bat. One would be all of your powers...” As he opened his eyes, a soft blue glow emanated from his irises. He smiled calmly and finished, “and the other the ability to resist you!” Wiley laughed. “What Reploid has that kind of...” That was when he remembered Rock's dead sister. “Your Ideals Will NOT Save You!!!” He rushed at the Hunter and went to deliver the final blow. To his surprise, it was blocked by tow identical green blades coming out of his buster arm feature.
Rock slashed in a quick counterattack, forcing the Wiley possessed husk backwards. Wiley snapped his other hand up and blocked both blades as the Reploid attempted to end the fight. They pushed each other back and lunged to begin the assault again.
Zero, Axel and Ciel all ran in and saw the battle. Axel turned to his teammate and yelled, “What are we waiting for? Let's help him out!” Zero shook his head. “No, Axel. Look at them.” Watching the two titans clash, he concluded, “At this point, we'd just be getting in the way.” About to object, he was cut off by Ciel, saying, “So this is the final battle. The two most powerful Reploids to exist will decide the fate of the world.” Zero nodded and the three of them watched.
Rock slashed at Wiley in a circular pattern, while the clone blocked with little effort. The Hunter did not expect his oldest enemy to have this kind of ability with a blade. At that moment, Wiley thrust both blades towards the warrior. At the last moment, he managed to jump over the attack and retaliate, cutting clean through his enemy's head. Landing, he said, “Game over!” He turned and say that Wiley was already done repairing the damage. “Oh, What the Slag!!!”
The counterattack was swift. Rock barely managed to parry the attack, and even more close was the next. Ducking under the third, he rolled to the side and stumbled to his feet a safe distance again. This was not the first time he jumped the gun on calling somewhere safe, either. He managed to dodge another attack and yelled, “Password!” The tree allies looked at him confused. “Slag it, Zero! What's the Slagging PASSWORD?!?”
Realizing he meant for his protocol, he yelled, “Zero!” A moment later, Rock shouted frantically, “It's not working!!!”
“The number, you IDIOT!!!” came the reply. Suddenly, Rock blocked the attack and began to strike with better force and far more precision. As the warriors fought, Zero yelled sarcastically, “You're welcome, by the way!”
Ciel looked at a hand held computer saying, Come on, come on! Where are you, you bastard!” The other two looked at her confused. Finally, she yelled, “Rock! You need to completely remove his head to deactivate the Repair feature!” Crashing through the pillar beside them, Rock got to his feet and said, “I'm a little busy here!” Then charged back into the battle. The three of them sighed and shook their heads in surrender, all muttering, “Idiot!”
Rock managed to land several powerful blows with the blade, but none connecting where he needed to hit. Wiley repaired himself as quickly as he was getting damage. He needed to come up with a new plan of attack. Going on the defensive, he tried to think of how he could take on his opponent and still land the strike that would remove it's head. Unfortunately, Wiley was not giving his mind much room in which it could wander.
'Damn!' he thought. 'There has to be a way I can deal with both blades and allow myself a chance to go for his head!' Then he came up with an idea. He remembered his helmet was able to take a direct shot bu the most powerful base weapon in Reploid programing. The rest on his outfit was made of the same protective material. Unfortunately, the blade could still slice through it if it was a clean strike. Regardless, he was going to have to chance it if he was going to end this chaos.
Rolling down and away from Wiley, he removed his vest and wrapped it around his right arm. Wiley laughed and said, “If you think that taking off your shirt is going to save you, you are dead wrong...” Lunging at the Hunter, he yelled, “Correction! Dead, PERIOD!!!” He slashed at Rock with both blades and the warrior raised his left blade to block the incoming attack and deactivated the right, simply using the flexible armor.
The blades crashed together with a mighty crash, and the other incoming blade sliced through the armored fabric and a section of Rock's arm. Fortunately, the arm remained partially functional and turned into it's buster state, emitting sparks from the damage. Aiming the weapon at Wiley's head, the creature attempted to get in a fatal strike when Rock hissed, “Rock You!” and fired.
The blast completely destroyed the monster's head and self destructed simultaneously. The remains fell to the ground, lifeless. Breathing a sigh of relief, Rock said, “Finally. This war is over for good.” Turning to the others, he said, “Let's go home.” As they left the room, Axel asked perplexed, “Seriously, man... Rock You? What the slag's with that?”
