BOOK III OF THE HUNTER TRILOGY
CHAPTER VIII
ROCK Vs. BASS
Rock and Ciel entered elaborately large that was Bass' command center. Rock suddenly grabbed his head and screamed in agony. “Rock! What's...” She took a step back as she noticed that his eyes were glowing red. “Bass is activating your Chaos Command! I have something that will help! Just try to hold on for one minute!” She took fished through her bag of science tools that she carried on her and pulled out a helmet that matched Rock's outfit. Placing it on his head, the tormented Reploid managed to regain his senses.
After a moment of heavy breathing, the Reploid muttered, “What... what is... this?” Ciel looked around, saying, “It's a helmet, you idiot! The only thing special about it is that there's a unique jamming signal installed to counter the Chaos Command flaw that you have. It'll take a little while, but it should deactivate that feature.” Rock forced himself to his feet and looked around, muttering, “Whatever. I think it makes me look like something out of a video game.” Sighing, the scientist replied, “The main thing is that it works. Now let's find that bastard, Bass.”
A voice came from the shadows, saying, “I assure you, you wont have to look far.” Ciel and Rock turned in the direction of the voice, taking aim with their Rifles. The Maverick called Bass came into sight, and they did not expect what they say. His appearance was completely different. He looked identical to Rock at this pint, minus the helmet and garbed in black. Rock glared at him and yelled, “This is the end of the road, Bass. You have nowhere to run!!!”
Laughing, the enemy said, “Run? If I intended to run, then why am I making my presence so painfully obvious, you moronic simpleton? I do not intend to run. I wish to offer a negotiation.” Ciel laughed. “Like what?” she asked. “He helps you wipe out the human race and you make him a ruler of a world of machines?” Chuckling, Bass replied, “Yes, yes... I believe it does go something along those lines. However, I'm not completely without reason. I will allow you to keep a couple of those weak, pathetic sacks of meat as your personal playthings.”
Ciel spat and yelled, “You're insane!” The tyrant laughed. “So I've been told. However, if you do not agree to the terms, I shall merely have to destroy you where you stand!” Wiley yelled, “Bass! You Fool! I told you I want him left alive so that I may enjoy the pleasure of watching him suffer!”
“You do not control me, Phantom! I follow my own desires, not yours!” As the two of them argued, Ciel said awkwardly, “This guy is completely off his rocker. Without a doubt insane!” Rock muttered in reply, “I think it's when he begins answering himself where we might have a small problem...”
Finally, Bass yelled, “I Am NOT a PUPPET!!!” Without another word, the tyrant started shooting at the duo. As they ducked behind his throne, Rock grumbled, “Slag! This guy's insane!!!” Ciel opened fire from her hiding place, yelling, “I told you!!!” Rock returned fire on his enemy. When he noticed that he was repairing himself as fast as he was being damaged, Ciel yelled, “This is bad!” Rock replied, “Get out of here! I'll cover you!!!” he quickly ducked behind cover as a round bounced off his helmet. “Huh,” he mused. “Stupid looking as well as functional.” He peered out the other side and fired at the enemy.
Bass laughed maniacally, saying, “It'll take a lot more than what you have to defeat me! I and a GOD!!!” Rock turned to the scientist and saw her tapping the back of her neck. He pulled out the crystal and read the digital signature. “It was Zero and Axel's base combat protocols. Smiling, he stepped out into the open. Bass smiled and said, “Well now. Have you come to your senses?” Rock nodded. “Yes, I have. A long time ago. You on the other hand...”
Bass laughed. “Again with the feeble insults? Such a boorish act is only used by those who are weak. A feeble attempt to make themselves feel powerful. Feeling powerful is no match for being truly powerful!” Rock shrugged. “Worth a shot. Speaking of which...” snapping his arm up, his arm changed into it's buster cannon mode and he opened fire. Completely demolishing the area, Rock yelled, “I already know you're not there, Bass. I'm not as stupid as you think I am!”
Jumping out of the way of a powerful burst of energy, he turned and saw Bass standing in front of the window. Rock immediately opened fire on the traitorous tyrant in an attempt to end the war. Bass ran in a circular pattern trying to outflank his target. Rock followed suit to avoid being an open target. The two of them each ducked behind pillar and stood there. “So you can fix yourself AND use the Buster ability! Last I checked, you were stuck having to rely on Buster Sidearms!” The tyrant laughed. “Last I checked, You would have already defeated any enemy you were facing by now!”
Smiling, Rock replied, “Yeah, well, I just guess I'm getting old.” He jumped out from his hiding place and moved towards Bass' position, firing to keep him suppressed. The tyrant managed to move out of the way of the attack and fired a shot, hitting the warrior in the side. Falling to his knees, he looked at his enemy. Bass smiled. “But as you can see, I am far more powerful that you could ever imagine. I will rule over this world supreme, and you will not stand in my way!”
Aiming the Buster arm at the Hunter's head, he said, “Any last requests?” Rock nodded. “Just two.” Smiling, the tyrant did not seem to want to waste an opportunity to hear the mighty warrior beg for his life. “Fine,” he beamed. “Let's hear it.” Rock eased himself into a seated position and pulled out a cigarette. Lighting it, he asked, “How did you get the buster program? You never did any field combat, but you still have it, as well as an impressive ability to use it properly.”
Bass smiled and, “It's rather simple actually.” Wiley yelled, “Not a word you worthless tool! Finish him off! NOW!!!” Bass yelled back to the specter, “Silence, Phantom! I will not be denied my savoring this victory his suffering brings!!!” Smiling, he turned back to Rock and said, “Now where was I? Ah, yes. My abilities. I actually have you to thank for that, my ignorant friend. The Chaos Command was a flaw that Dr. Wiley secretly installed into your systems, and transferred to others as well. It scans all the data they possess and passes it on secretly to the others. Any Reploid with this command can copy any ability from another afflicted with it. It has made me perfect.”
Rock nodded. Well, that makes a fair bit of sense. The pain I get from the command is what it does when it transfers the data.” Bass nodded. “That's correct. This transfer, however, tends to drive the host insane.”
“I noticed,” Rock mumbled. Smiling, the Tyrant said, “I have dealt with your first request, as promised. Now what is your second, so I may finally be done with your wretched existence.” Rock smiled and placed his hand on his enemy's chest and replied, “Oh, that's easy...” His hand turned into it's buster form and as he fired, yelled, “SHUT THE SLAG UP!!!”
